01 / Why choose this material

Properties and uses
of black resin.

Black stereolithography resin with ABS-like behavior. The color runs through the whole part, so a scuff does not reveal another color underneath. Layers may be visible on curved surfaces.

Black resin is printed by stereolithography and carries the color throughout: if the part gets scuffed, no other color shows underneath. It is used to show a product that will be black without going through painting. Layers may be visible on curved surfaces; if you need a perfect surface or a different color, it can also be painted.

Black resin applications

Black product prototypes

Prototypes of products that will be manufactured in black.

Electronics housings

Electronic equipment housings to validate appearance.

Display parts

Parts for display and product photography.

Validation models

Validation models with the final color.

02 / A choice based on usage

Choose black resin
based on your part.

These criteria help define the material, geometry, and working conditions before manufacturing.

01

Black without painting

Skip the paint and the days it takes. The color is the material's own, uniform throughout the part.

02

Surface

Matte, with layers slightly visible on curves. For a smooth, even finish, it is painted in RAL or Pantone, matte, satin, or gloss.

03

Size and temperature

Up to 580 × 580 × 380 mm. It withstands 50 °C before deforming: it is not for parts that work.

The part's function is the starting point.

Indicate loads, temperature, environment, and appearance needed. If the drawing requires a specific grade, include it in the request.

03 / Finishing also counts

Smooth surface typical of stereolithography. Support marks are sanded; layers may be visible on curved surfaces.

Reference images: material, geometry, and surface preparation influence the outcome. Special finishes are quoted upon request.

04 / From design to quote

SLA 3D printing
in black resin.

Stereolithography builds the black resin part layer by layer: an ultraviolet laser cures the liquid resin on a platform. The part grows on thin supports that are then removed and sanded, and it gets a final cure with ultraviolet light.

Upload a 3D model per part, for example in STEP or STL. SLDPRT, X_T, X_B, IPT, CATPART, PRT, SAT, and 3DM files are also accepted. Add a PDF drawing with functional dimensions and assembly requirements.

Part tolerances

Printing tolerances depend on geometry, orientation, and material. Indicate assembly dimensions on a drawing for the team to confirm feasibility. CNC machining tolerances are not automatically applied.

Quantity and cost per part

The price per part usually varies little with quantity. Producing more units does not imply the volume savings achievable with machining or molds.

Quote in 24 hours

Parts from 7 working days after confirming the order. The quote specifies the lead time based on geometry, material, finish, and quantity.

How much it costs to manufacture

The price of your part
in black resin.

The price of printing black resin depends on material volume, geometry, build orientation, and post-processing. Quantity usually reduces the unit cost only slightly.

Check the catalog example to compare materials. To know the cost of your design, request a quote with your 3D file.

Frequently asked questions

Before manufacturing
in black resin.

Properties, applications, and manufacturing: answers to prepare your request.

What is black resin and what are its properties?

Black stereolithography resin with ABS-like behavior. The color runs through the whole part, so a scuff does not reveal another color underneath. Layers may be visible on curved surfaces. Photopolymer resin: it is not suitable for parts that work above 50 °C, in the sun for months, or under sustained loads. If you need a more even surface or a different color, it can be painted.

What parts can be manufactured in black resin?

You can manufacture black product prototypes, electronics housings, display parts, and validation models. Stereolithography allows validating the appearance and detail of a part without manufacturing a mold. Define the loads, environment, and finish so we can review the application.

Is black resin painted or dyed?

It is dyed throughout: the black runs through the whole material. A scratch does not reveal another color, as it would on a painted part.

Can a black resin part be painted?

Yes. Proto&Go! paints it in RAL or Pantone with a matte, satin, or gloss finish, to even out the surface or give it a different color. Specify the color when requesting the quote.

Black resin or black dyed PA12?

Black resin is smooth and more detailed, for appearance prototypes. Dyed PA12 is granular, but tough and functional. Choose based on whether the part will be shown or used.

What is the maximum size of a black resin part?

Up to 580 × 580 × 380 mm. For larger parts, consider white resin painted black, which reaches 1,650 mm.

How much does it cost to 3D print a black resin part?

The price of printing black resin depends on material volume, geometry, build orientation, and post-processing. Quantity usually reduces the unit cost only slightly. Upload the 3D file to the Proto&Go! platform to receive a quote with cost and lead time.

What tolerances can I request for a black resin part?

Printing tolerances depend on geometry, orientation, and material. Indicate assembly dimensions on a drawing for the team to confirm feasibility. CNC machining tolerances are not automatically applied.

What file do I need to manufacture a black resin part?

Upload a 3D model per part, for example in STEP or STL. SLDPRT, X_T, X_B, IPT, CATPART, PRT, SAT, and 3DM files are also accepted. Add a PDF drawing with functional dimensions and assembly requirements.
